Steven’s most recent novel, 88 Lines About 44 Women, Penguin, Viking, was released in September 2009. It is a contemporary story, set in Scotland and Australia, and is narrated by Lawrence Martin, sometime keyboard player in one of Australia’s more successful rock bands from the ‘80s.
Steven’s first novel, An Accidental Terrorist, UQP 2005, won two prestigious awards: the NSW Premier’s Literary Award for best first novel 2006 (UTS Award for New Writing), and
the Queensland Premier’s Literary Award for Best Emerging Author 2004. It was longlisted for the Miles Franklin Award and shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writer’s Prize for best first novel.
His other works include a play, A Strong Brown God, performed at the Metro Arts Theatre in Brisbane in 1996, recently published in book form under the Lang House Press imprint.
Steven has several short stories and articles published in anthologies, newspapers and literary magazines. He has tutored and lectured extensively in Creative Writing at the University of the Sunshine Coast and has a Masters in Creative Industries, specialising in writing for film
