Steven’s first novel, An Accidental Terrorist, was released by UQP in October 2005 and is now in reprint.
The novel has won two prestigious literary awards and been nominated for several others.

At the 2006 New South Wales Premier’s Literary Awards it received the UTS Award for New Writing, capping a good season in which it was both longlisted for the Miles Franklin and shortlisted for a Commonwealth Writer’s Prize (for best first book). As a manuscript the novel won the 2004 Queensland Premier’s Literary Award for Best Emerging Author.

His other work includes a play,
A Strong Brown God, which was performed at the Metro Arts Theatre in Brisbane in 1996, and several short stories, published in anthologies and literary magazines.

He has tutored and lectured extensively in Creative Writing at the University of the Sunshine Coast and has a Masters in Creative Industries, specialising in writing for film.

Steven lives in Maleny, Queensland, where he and his wife, Chris Francis, started Rosetta Books, one of the most exciting independent bookstores in the state. They have since (July 2007) sold the business so that Steven could write full time.

His new novel, The Law of Unexpected Consequences, is under consideration by several Australian publishers.
